 Cooperation between Kazakhstan and UNIDO

Kazakhstan cooperates with UNIDO within several regional projects in areas such as industrial statistics, industrial integration and mitigation of negative impact of industry on the environment, including Global Environment Facility and Montreal Protocol projects.
 
Prospective areas of cooperation include participation of UNIDO in implementation of the Green Bridge Partnership Programme aimed at promoting green growth policies in Central Asia, Mongolia, Afghanistan and Azerbaijan and the EXPO-2017 on the theme "The Future Enеrgy", an exhibition to take place in Astana in 2017.

At the national level, Kazakhstan cooperates with UNIDO as part of attracting expertise of international development partners, including its methodologies, know-how and technical knowledge, in conjunction with ongoing industrialization policy and the second Five-Year Plan of the State program of industrial development for 2015-2019. Among others, priority areas of cooperation include: modernization and productivity; energy efficiency; technological foresight; trade capacity increase; industrial statistics; energy and environment.

High-level meetings.  The first visit of UNIDO Director General Mr. Kandeh Yumkella to Kazakhstan took place on 1-3 July 2010, during which he participated in the 3rd Astana Economic Forum and met with the Head of State.
On 14 February 2011 in Vienna Mr. Asset Issekeshev, the Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Industry and New Technologies of the Republic of Kazakhstan met with Mr. Dmitry Piskunov, UNIDO Managing Director, to discuss UNIDO Country Program for Kazakhstan and UNIDO’s involvement in Global Environment Facility (GEF) projects in our country.
Mr. Li Yong, Director-General of the UNIDO, payed a visit to Kazakhstan in the period from 30 April to 5 May 2014. The Head of UNIDO met with Mr. Karim Massimov, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan. As the result of the meeting, parties signed a Joint Declaration on cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, which defined the main areas of interaction between Kazakhstan and UNIDO.
The UNIDO chief also met with Mr. Asset Issekeshev, the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Erlan Iddrisov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Nurlan Kapparov, the Minister of Environment and Water Resources and Mr. Yerbolat Dossayev, the Ministry of Economy and Budget Planning. During the high-level meetings the issues of bilateral cooperation were discussed, including the development of the UNIDO Country Programme Framework for Kazakhstan for 2015-2019.

Mr. Erlan Iddrisov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Mr. Li Yong, Director-General of the UNIDO met in Vienna on 2 December 2015 in order to discuss current cooperation issues.
